TangierSubmitted by Ali on Sat, 2006-10-07 15:21.
well we have been here at least 24 hours now and like it a lot so far. Food has dramatically improved in my view both from the greasy pig filled spanish fare and teh greasy pub grub of Gib (as all "people in the know" say). Tagines, couscous, fabulous things with vegetables, big flat breads and huge things like giant thin crumpets.... mmmmm. I must not be too rude about Spain as I did have one or too good meals mostly of fabulous fresh fish, but the Portuguese style of cooking the same fabulous freesh fish (grilled and with spuds and piles of veg) appealed over the Spanish fry fry fry style. Anyway, about Tangier. We had a fabulous meal out, which we were a bit too tired to appreciate having suddenly changed our clocks back two hours to GMT. We will have to visit another place and enjoy the slow pace of a full meal and the sounds of live musicians another time... The perils of a shared toilet and shower revealed themselves at 2am when one of our neighbours locked the whole suite and spent hours! showering. maybe they were waiting for hot water. tantalisingly the shower would keep stopping (thin walls) but then would restart; arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! We set off this morning in search of the railway station and did a long tour of most of the North African coast before it revealed itself. But, we now have tickets for tonights overnight train to Marrakech - how exciting is that? just one hop from there to camel heaven. watch this space.
